2026 song diary

two years ago, i started to make a yearly playlist where i'd add one song each day. it had to be different every time and the purpose was for it to reflect how i felt*/what i was into/remember a new song i found/etc... so i wanted to make a website page for it this year, along with a note for each entry. i'm hoping to broaden my music taste this year cuz i'm really big on just repeating the same songs over and over again but i'm getting tired of that

what i'm listening to in real time...

january

1/1 Interpol - My Desire: recently got into interpol and this one's just a favorite rn *edit: wait i get it now owwww OW OW OWWWWWW

1/2 Interpol - PDA: it might b an interpol january... okay when i first listened to PDA it didn't stick out to me all that much but then i watched the music video (wish it kept the outro...) and well now i like it more. early 2000s paul banks save me... save me early 2000s paul banks...

1/3 *Interpol - Untitled: i'm so fucking sorry i tried really hard to not have another interpol song. i woke up with the bittersweet taste from a conversation with a friend last night lingering in my mouth & gravitated toward untitled all day... reminds me of how i feel about that friend + convo. generally really loving this album rn, i wish i'd gotten into it sooner.

1/4 The Marías - Real life: barely listened to music today omg i really like the way she says "white lie" and "goodbye" in the chorus tho idk

1/5 *Radiohead - There, There: well just cause you feel it, doesn't mean it's there...

1/6 Thee Sacred Souls - Will I See You Again?: sp*tify recommended this :o

1/7 Mannequin Pussy - I Don’t Know You: found this through a tiktok edit #sorry

1/8 Interpol - The New: sooo awesome, it's like two songs in one. i focused on the second half of the song when i first got into it (the way he sings here enchants me... + the bass is insane) but now i'm also starting to appreciate the first half a lot more

1/9 Coldplay - Shiver: OWWWW AGAIN OUCH i can't even say how i came across this one it's kinda effed up. i like that it's yearning but it doesn't feel depressive. i'll have to revisit this when i can relate. i like to torture myself a little bit i think

1/10 Interpol - Tidal Wave: the pre-chorus corrupt meeeee + it mentions saturday so it felt fitting for today. there's a build-up which i adore and i just feel this song in my spirit even if it isn't a situation i relate to... like woah i totally feel swept up and overcome by some impending Thing. found out it's never been performed live which is devastating. i ALSO found out that they're opening for mcr in july wtf

1/11 Fontaines D.C. - Roman Holiday: well yes...

1/12 The Marías - I Like It: saw a clip of this performed in 2017 and thought it was fire

1/13 Dua Lipa - Be the One: annoying pop song idgaf... i need to listen to more things that don't make me think too hard

1/14 Fall Out Boy - Fame < Infamy: one of my faves from infinity on high

1/15 PUP - Reservoir: shred played music while tattooing me today. it was all really good but this song stuck out cuz he went "i used to blast this on the way to highschool" or something so i asked what song it was

1/16 PJ Harvey - This Mess We're In: the refrain was stuck in my head

1/17 *Paramore - Hate to See Your Heart Break: thought of a friend... owwwwowowowowow it broke me

1/18 Fall Out Boy - I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off: got stuck in my head for the several hours that i hung out with lily cause he played it in his car and then i sang it with shred at karaoke aw

1/19 *Fall Out Boy - Fourth of July: i'll be as honest as you let me you are my favorite what if you are my best i'll never know i didn't mean any of it i just got too lonely you are the drought and i'm the holy water you have been without the torture of small talk with someone you used to love FUCKING WHATEVER BRUH!!!!! kinda hate the instrumental sorry it makes me feel kinda embarrassed to listen to it but it feels good

1/20 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control: just yup

1/21 *PJ Harvey - Oh My Lover: found this in an artist's playlist ummm but i like how there's a desperation to it. one thing about me is i love themes of desperation, especially in good songs.

1/22 Banks & Steelz - Wild Season: looked into paul banks' side projects and i really liked this one!

1/23 Justin Bieber - Right Here: talked to bryce about justin bieber's old music the other day and ended up here

1/24 Thursday - Magnets Caught in a Metal Heart: SOOOOO good!!! i saw that shred was listening to this album and we're gonna see thursday again, so i was like "ok i need to get more thursday-pilled and this title is calling to me" so i gave it a listen and... well... it's just amazing...
feeels liiike we're iinn looooo-ooo-ooo-oooove

1/25 *Interpol - Try It On: i feel kinda crazy cause i've listened to this song before but i didn't really look @ the lyrics until last night and it reminded me of something. then i realized that when i had a conversation with someone about that Something 2 weeks ago, they used the phrase "try it on" and things are starting to click in my head. everything is connected...

1/26 *Fontaines D.C. - Nabokov: i'll be your dog in the corner yup... listened to this cause someone on tiktok called it the perfect crashout song which i don't quite feel but. anyway.

1/27 *Muse - Endlessly: the chorus changing from "if the moment ever comes" to "but the moment never comes" at the end FUUUCK...

1/28 *Harry Styles - Golden: ik harry styles is annoying now but me and his first two albums go back... this was my favorite from fine line before it was released as a single + was still underrated #justsaying. anyway. listened to this for the first time in a while and it gives me this weird feeling because it's forever associated with the deeply depressed period that it originally found me in. "i know that you're scared because i'm so open" spoke to me then and it speaks to me now...

1/29 *Björk - Come to Me: awww listening to this makes me feel sweetly... thinking about love and its expressions and Things Unspoken

1/30 I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - SIXFT: feels good to listen to plus ****** ****** ** ****** ***

2/9 Lady Gaga - I Like It Rough: one of my favorite lady gaga songs of all time...

2/10 MARINA - Radioactive: i used to be a huge marina fan but i haven't been listening to her as much, so i listened to my old favorite songs of hers. bumping this album in my adolescence was a huge mistake but also maybe necessary?

2/11 Yura Yura Teikoku - 空洞です: i saved this a few months ago bc it was playing at a bar...

2/12 Manic Street Preachers - She Is Suffering: i was too busy to really lock in on any particular song but this is a new one to me

2/13 *Hayley Williams - Sudden Desire: like c'mon bruh

2/14 *Interpol - Narc: the guitar the bass the opening verse the OUTROOOO! such a sweet sounding outro for such a seedy song. you should be in myyy liiife you could be in MYYY SPAAACE like yeah.

2/15 Banks & Steelz - Conceal: the bass is just soooo gooood the song just feels buttery and it kinda felt perfect to listen to as i rode the bus at night

2/16 Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks: i've been talking to hannah about millennial optimism and showed her a roblox tiktok to this song yesterday so it's been stuck in my head LOLLL

2/17 *Gerard Way - Action Cat: SAY YOU MISS ME TOO!!!!!

2/23 *PJ Harvey - One Line: sweetness

2/24 *Coldplay - Yellow: something about love songs and drawing lines... sure

2/25 Gwen Stefani - 4 In The Morning: this album was kind of her last hoorah. got tired of this really fast back in the summer but it was the first song that played this morning and now i can tolerate it again

2/26 *Carly Rae Jepsen - Come Over: chills...

2/27 Britney Spears - Get Naked (I Got A Plan): i love having plans

2/28 *Fever Blanket - You & the Things You Do: it was really hard to pick a song of the day cuz ten billion were really fitting but this one's new AND fitting...

march

3/1 *No Doubt - Don't Let Me Down: it's kinda messed up and embarrassing how often i relate to no doubt + gwen stefani songs

3/2 *Ariana Grande - warm: i'm getting killed again

3/3 *Fontaines D.C. - Here's the Thing: woke up wrong but then i got Healed

3/4 *Sorry - Let The Lights On: song that i really liked on a sweet cd i was gifted ... yay New things

3/5 *Rusty Williams, Hayley Williams - Friends Or Lovers: is there room in your heart for a man like me 😂😂🤣😭💀😂😂🤣😂🤣💀😭 nothing’s funny.

3/7 Frank Iero - Blood Infections: i'm surprised i haven't picked a frank or mcr song this year yet... kinda hard to listen to him without feeling like shit but i can listen to this one without feeling bad

3/8 Pierce The Veil - Gold Medal Ribbon: owwwwww

3/9 *FKA twigs - sad day: such a beautiful album and song. i was wondering why i stopped listening and now i remember... it hurts so goddamn bad!!! the chorus is beautiful and i've always been really fond of how she delivers the line "if you're foolishly in love with me, it's a fine day for sure" aw ow. OW!

3/10 *Magdalena Bay - Something for 2: i actually only listened to this twice today but it played at a fitting moment. it's about a relationship and Such and ummm idk there was lowkey another song i listened to a lot & also really related to today but i'm trying to avoid the same artists over and over. just spent a lot of the day thinking about vulnerability and wanting to Be Better and With Someone. i suppose...

3/11 St. Vincent - Hell Is Near: was thinking of this song bc another one from this album played when i was out the other day. st vincent makes me think of 2024 spring quarter

3/12 The Killers - All These Things That I've Done: lily's always playing this in the car and well today was no exception #IGotSoulButImNotASoldier

3/13 *The Smashing Pumpkins - The Boy: exactly bro EXACTLYYYYYY. reminded me to Feel Good. do not let the evil consume you...

3/14 PinkPantheress - Capable of love: they threw me in the meat grinder today and also yesterday so i started to think about what i listened to the last time i felt This Way and remembered this song. i have to get back into pinkpantheress

3/15 Frou Frou - A New Kind Of Love: i keep saying i want to listen to new songs and then crawl back to old ones...

3/16 *Hayley Williams - Pure Love: ok whatever i'm doing hayley again i don't even care anymore

3/17 All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors - Your Imagination: i think i also found this one through a tiktok. it's ok when i find songs through it cause it's like "lol that's what the app was made for" but then i get mad as hell when songs i like are on there.

3/18 Escape from New York - Fire In My Heart: ^

3/19 *Desire - Under Your Spell: i'm drive

3/20 *This Is Lorelai - Perfect Hand: my ball... i like both the original + the power snatch version so pretend that this includes both of them.
always thinking of the same person these days... whatevenever...

3/21 Modest Mouse - Float On: happy salacious spring!!!

3/22 *Hayley Williams - Crystal Clear: this song kinda means the world and more to me… i first really got into it on the trip to california but then i became pretty depressed during the second half of december and i was like “damn things actually aren’t crystal clear …” but it entered my mind again when manu took me to the waterfront last month + today i listened to it on whidbey island while the sky was Clear and i realized the feeling that’s been sprouting inside of me since i first listened to it never even disappeared... in fact it continues to grow... hanging out with people i love by the water fixes me and brings me clarity, basically.

3/23 *NxWorries - Daydreaming: heard this for the first time in bryce's car yesterday and i really liked it

3/24 Paramore - Told You So: something about the bridge was eating at me all day idk it was also a rough day and i kept listening to songs that made me wallow but this was probs one of the, like, two songs i listened to that didn't make me tear up or feel insane

3/25 The Kid LAROI - I GUESS IT'S LOVE?: for some reason i feel embarrassed listening to this. i forgot the kid laroi existed until recently... i like some of his songs tho

3/26 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Dragon Queen: just sounds awesome and felt good to listen to on a sunny day with hannah

3/27 Garbage - #1 Crush: #revisiting it kills me that they only played like 5 seconds of this in romeo + juliet. this was on my mind though because i was thinking of the way she sings the outro in the live performance they did on the stern show in 1998... one of my favorite performances

3/28 *Muse - Unintended: i'll be there as soon as i can 😂 but i'm busy 😂😂 mending broken pieces 😂😂😂 of the life i had before 😂😂😭😭 sometimes you listen to a song first thing in the morning and know it's going to be The One of the day... i also have a new perspective of the second verse which is awesome to think about how songs can change meanings based on who's listening and how you can develop different interpretations even over a decade after you first listened to it... a decade! oh i feel old.

3/29 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dark Necessities: now i know two (2!) of their songs

3/30 *Wolf Alice - Don't Delete The Kisses: thinking more about the second half... i used to focus a lot to the first half because it's just what i related to more + there was this awesome edit of claudia from iwtv to that part. focusing more on the ending now tho... think about it

3/31 *Frank Iero - .stitches.: unhand me...
in late dec i layered this song with 3 other songs that make notable use of the word Want/Wanting/Wanted and i wanted to put it on this website but i couldn't figure out where/how. thinking about that again

april

4/1 *boygenius - Not Strong Enough: forgot about this... was lost in a fog and listening to mopey songs again. felt good to remember that Many feel this way and i suddenly felt a lot less foolish and isolated... i've snapped out of it. i will not be an april fool!

4/2 Interpol - What Is What: i very greatly love the guitar oh wow... especially at the opening/in the verses

4/3 Warpaint - The Stall: i can't remember how i came across this one but it's another new one to me

4/4 *Interpol - Pace Is The Trick: okay true

4/5 The Used - Blue and Yellow: was on my mind because fiona gave me a blue and yellow string LOL

4/6 MARINA - Power & Control: back into electra heart oh i have so much i could say... i always found the post-chorus to bridge transition awesome, going from "doesn't mean that i am weak" to repeating "i am weak" and well ok i'm writing too much again but it's crazy how all these years later im rediscovering my appreciation for the story, character, etc. gotta listen to more concept albums.

4/7 *BENEE - Hurt You, Gus: yet another song i rediscovered #rediscoveryyy just felt nice to listen to. i find that i can relate to it in a way but i wasn't quite thinking about its relatability when listening. i'll still give it a star tho

4/8 *I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - Kiss Goodnight: well i feel like this one's self explanatory

4/9 *Gerard Way - Into the Cave We Wander: unexpectedly got to hang out w fiona + it was gerard's birthday so we listened to a lot of their discography. they introduced me to this song last spring so it felt like a sweet full circle moment... help me find who i'm supposed to be again... more to say about that Soon

4/10 *Frank Iero - Miss Me: continuing yesterday's sentiments, thinking of friends... this song hurts good. it's insane how much it feels like frank is in my brain. he's like "yes i am pathetic, no i won't stop" and that's why he's awesome as fuck. i feel like a sopping wet dog or a desperate ex-boyfriend with no self-respect.

4/11 *The Used - Noise and Kisses: lowkey how it feels sometimes but it's liiike ok yeah. i've def listened to this song before but it didn't Stick until today

4/12 *Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time: watched romy and michele's high school reunion which plays this song a few times and spent the day with my friends so this song felt kind of perfect to me today...

4/13 *Deftones - This Place Is Death: got sent an edit to this song so it's been on my mind... i don't listen to deftones as much as i used to, should maybe change that

4/14 Thursday - Fast to the End: EEEEEK! saw thursday live for the second time with Good Friends of mine. one of my current favorite thursday songs so i was really excited to hear it live. what a beautiful day

4/15 No Devotion - Permanent Sunlight: shred recommended i listen to no devotion because it has geoff + stu and well this is just amazing to me... he always nails music recs.

4/16 Disclosure, Lorde - Magnets: someone commented this under a twitter thread about lena dunham/jack antonoff/lorde drama and i liked it

4/17 No Devotion - The End of Longing: i'm just still amazed... this is geoff's death spells. i played this in the car after the mariners game even though i knew no one would give a fuck except for fiona. felt good af. no devotion is how summer and the rest of spring are going to feel.

4/18 Interpol - Obstacle 1: f it... idk why obstacle 1 kept calling to me today but it did. something in the way i walked to the bakery...

4/19 Lady Gaga - G.U.Y.: oh i fucked up so bad... 💀

4/21 *Garbage - I Think I'm Paranoid: unfortunately one of The most Me songs of all time... i have to get killed like actually. shirley manson and i have the same venus + personality type(s?)... maybe that's why she's one of the songwriters i can relate to often

4/22 *Nine Inch Nails - The Collector: fuuuuuck he gets it...

4/23 LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change: feels like the weather getting warmerrrr

4/24 Björk - Isobel: just sounds good af what can i even say

4/25 Kesha - c u next tuesday: oomf posted this on their story

4/26 Cocteau Twins - Lorelei: i was tired and spaced out during a car ride when i heard this and it made me feel frightened yet comforted at the same time... waow

4/27 Panic! At The Disco - The Ballad of Mona Lisa: one of the two songs that got me into patd in middle school :o i always forget about it for a long time, become obsessed, and then forget about it again. sang it at karaoke with lily last night which felt really good in my Spirit

4/28 *Wrongchilde, Gerard Way - Falling in Love (Will Kill You): i like the way gerard sings "things get all mixed up inside my brain" it just sounds good. i also like the outro, it makes me feel sleepy in a sweet way

4/29 Nirvana - In Bloom: crazy how this still makes me think of that one frank edit

4/30 *Jessie Ware - Adore You: i liked one of her songs a few years ago and was reminded of her when i saw a video about her a few months ago... can't remember how i came across this particular song it's fire and fit the vibe tho

may

5/1 *Gwen Stefani - Fluorescent: it always comes back to gwen 🤦🏻

5/2 *Muse - Can't Take My Eyes off You: ok i think listening to gerard's cover of happy together is what reminded me of this the other week. then last night, a dope regular sang it at karaoke, so it felt like a sign. i've also been listening to the original + the covers by lauryn hill and tommy february but well yeah

5/3 My Chemical Romance - Bulletproof Heart: never cared too deeply about this song but singing it with shred and fiona changed me... gravitaaaaay dont mean too muuuch to meee

5/4 Knox Fortune - Lil Thing: i used to be really resistant to letting people put me on to songs but i'm letting go of that. or maybe it really just depends on the person... anyway, heard this on the way to friday harbor the other week and it got stuck in my head

5/5 Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake - Holy Grail: idk what made me think of this song but i remember hearing and liking it as a kid

5/6 *﹖My Chemical Romance - Cubicles: this happens all the time😂😂😂and i can't help but think i'll die alone😂😂😭😭 this was one of the songs i listened to a lot when i first made my site ! i think a part of it will always live inside me

5/7 Hayley Williams - Ice In My OJ: she's so dope for interpolating a song she sang when she was younger...

5/8 *No Devotion - Night Drive: can't even say what i wanna...

5/9 *Paramore - Ignorance: i am So

5/10 *My Chemical Romance - Summertime: owwwwwwwwwww ow ow ow ok whatever

5/11 *Hayley Williams - Whim: sorry she just always gets me

5/12 Denzel Curry - Walkin: heard this at karaoke the other day and i thought, "wow this song is good" but it was embarrassing cuz i was lowkey the only person who didn't know it.

5/13 *Kylie Minogue - Chocolate: it's already changing my life. i heard the first 5 seconds and immediately knew it'd be an all-timer for me. it's also just real as fuck

5/14 Drake - Hold On, We're Going Home: you guys don't even know the story. also was thinking about the arctic monkeys cover again

5/15 *Frank Iero - She's the Prettiest Girl at the Party, and She Can Prove It with a Solid Right Hook: certain parts remind me of a Good Friend and other parts remind me of Someone Else but it's generally relatable to me at all times like "spent my life getting in my own way" anddd idk it means very much to me... tied my stomach in knots and i'm ready to know... just know that the best that i'll ever be is whatever you make me and wherever you are... also last night i dreamt fiona was being mean to me so i bawled while singing "i wish you would tell me if you even care" to her so that's why i woke up thinking about it.

5/16 My Chemical Romance - The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You: one of my top 5 mcr songs probably... i keep showing people the live in mexico performance

5/17 *Tyler, The Creator - I THINK: yeah idk wat to even say today. just yea

5/21 *The Veronicas - Untouched: it's just been calling to me again recently idk it's fab and fun

5/22 Fontaines D.C. - I Love You: okaaaay i always dog on people for ignoring its blatant political meaning but i was being selective with the i love you's and thinking of... well you know

5/23 *Olivia Rodrigo - the cure: there was like one part that deeply got to me and then i thought wait she's awesome and relatable and then i got emo at the end of the day after thinking about it too hard #easilyinfluenced

5/24 Arctic Monkeys - Knee Socks: got knee socks from manu recently and well today i wore them 🎵when you walked around your house wearing my sky blue lacoste and your... (manu) knee socks🎵

5/28 *Black Eyed Peas - Meet Me Halfway: it's just perfect owwwww and the fact it has the guitar from maps which is also perfect..? they're brothers...

5/29 Lily Allen - Ruminating: she's stronger than me cuz if this happened to me i wouldn't write an album, i'd just start ******* people. i was really drawn to the use of repitition in the verses, especially the first one where she repeats "you're mine" and how her voice gets increasingly desperate. i've said before that i love desperation in songs... but yeah it just sounded good to me and i like how it reinforces the theme of obsessive thinking.

5/30 Dominic Fike - How Much Is Weed?: i think i was looking through old liked songs when i stumbled across this... then it got stuck in my head while i was painting

6/6 St. Vincent - Strange Mercy: i really like the bridge. another thing that i really love about songs is a Good Bridge

6/7 *Paramore - Pool: you just have to pretend this wasn't written about a chud. her use of water as a metaphor in relationships... i have to talk more about that later.

6/8 *Daft Punk - Something About Us: it's already doing numbers on me but if i had listened to this pre-february 26th..? i would have been a Problem, i can tell you that much.

6/10 ScubaZ - The Vanishing American Family: ok i heard this at the bar on monday and shazam wasn't picking up on it and i remember thinking "i'm going to hurt someone if i leave without knowing what song it is." luckily i didn't leave with the need to hurt anyone.

6/11 Blur - Beetlebum: i feel like i haven't listened to this in forever it always feels really good tho. i remember downloading the music video and listening to it on my giant old ipad at night when i was like 11.

6/12 *Olivia Rodrigo - my way: did an album listen-through last night and this one stuck out immediately cuz it reminded me of danger zone by gwen stefani. then when i was looking up the lyrics this morning, i saw that olivia said she "was going through some gwen stefani vibes in there" so i felt really amazing. i See You... dope as fuck song also.

6/13 *Gotye - Night Drive: i was staring out the train window as the sun set and feeling bittersweet... makes me think of two people. one in a sweet "yay" way and the other in an "aw owwww ow ow ow" way.
